The Launch Handbook
A day-by-day plan for launching on X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Product Hunt, from two weeks out to the week after.
- 1Two weeks before
Know what you're launching, and for whom
- Write one sentence: who it's for, what changes for them, why now.
- Pick one demonstration of the change: a short screen recording or a clear worked example.
- List the people who have asked about this problem and plan a relevant personal follow-up.
- Find communities where your audience asks for help. Read their rules and contribute only when you have something useful to add.
- 2One week before
Prepare everything you'll need on the day
- Launch post for X (a short version and a thread), LinkedIn and your newsletter.
- Product Hunt page: tagline, gallery, first comment, and a maker who will answer all day.
- A landing page that says the same thing as your posts, with one clear button.
- Answers to the ten questions you expect, written in advance.
- Launch day
Show up all day
- Morning: share on the channels your audience uses and email subscribers who expect updates.
- Make time to answer questions and correct any unclear explanation.
- Midday: share a behind-the-scenes post: a number, a lesson, a thank-you.
- Evening: post where your audience is (a relevant subreddit, if its rules allow), framed as a story, not an ad.
- 4The week after
Turn attention into momentum
- Write the honest recap: what worked, what didn't, the numbers you're comfortable sharing.
- Turn the best questions you were asked into FAQ entries and articles.
- Follow up personally with everyone who signed up and asked something.
- Choose the next small improvement from the questions people actually asked.
Launch questions.
Can a launch go viral on purpose?
No template can promise that. Focus on what you can control: a working demonstration, a clear explanation and useful answers to the questions people ask.
Should I launch on a specific day?
Pick a day when your team can answer questions and your intended audience can try what you are sharing. Check any platform's current launch requirements before you schedule it.
Do I need a big audience first?
You can start with a small group who understands the problem. Ask for feedback on a working demonstration rather than promising a particular amount of attention.
Take a small first step.
