Start with a question you can help answer
If someone is asking about a problem you know, you may have something useful to add. Start by deciding whether you can answer their question well, even without mentioning your product.
Reddit prohibits repeated or unsolicited mass engagement and gives moderators room to apply their community rules. A short checklist can help you review a reply, but it cannot guarantee acceptance or protect an account from enforcement.
Rule 1: read the room (and the sidebar)
Every subreddit has its own rules, usually in the sidebar or wiki. Many ban links entirely, some allow self-promotion only on certain days, and some require you to disclose affiliation. Read them before you reply, every time.
Rule 2: answer first, mention second
Write the reply you'd write if you had no product: specific, practical, honest. Only then ask whether a product mention helps answer the question. A useful reply can explain a free method or an alternative for a task your product does not serve.
Rule 3: always disclose
If you mention your own product, make the relationship clear: “I build X.” Do not present yourself as an independent customer or invent first-hand experience. Disclosure does not override a community's rule against promotion.
Rule 4: participate where you have something to add
Participate in conversations you care about and answer questions where you have useful knowledge. Do not treat a community as a list of prospects or send unsolicited pitches to its members.
Rule 5: pace yourself
Give each question its own answer. Do not mass-post the same promotional text, organize votes or use alternate accounts to get around enforcement. The number of replies does not make an otherwise prohibited action acceptable.
- Do: answer questions where your experience is relevant.
- Do: add a concrete step or example and say what you do not know.
- Don't: drop links in subreddits that ban them.
- Don't: coordinate votes or evade a ban with another account.
Where Boplis helps
The Boplis Reddit workstream is being designed around finding relevant questions and reviewing replies before a person posts them. The current workspace only shows sample work; it does not discover live threads, check current community rules or post to Reddit. You can use the prompt library's community-reply template in your own process today.
